This morning we Savuti and head to the Khwai area. On the outskirts of the beautifully preserved Moremi Game Reserve, is a wildlife-prolific and varied ecosystem which provides a patchwork of lagoons, shallow flooded pans, open grass plains and woodland forests. The Khwai area is without a doubt one of the most scenic areas in Botswana.
The Khwai Concession landscape is an amalgamation of lush grassland, seasonal flood plains and thick Mopane forests. Elephants wallow in the river near hippos as lechwe antelopes look on. Photogenic leopards, spotted hyenas and wild dogs are plentiful, while prides of lions often make appearances. During the dry season, many animals migrate to the Linyanti area where the Khwai River provides an abundance of water for antelopes, giraffes, buffalos, and zebras. There’s also a variety of birds to be seen – egrets, cranes, vultures and different species of eagles specializing in catching catfish.
Moremi Game Reserve, in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, is a top destination in Africa when it comes to spotting wildlife. Known as the Heart of the Okavango Delta, this reserve is a must-see if you plan to visit Botswana. You’ll find all of the Big Five and over 500 different bird species on Chief’s Island, The region’s predators are the envy of many across Africa. In addition to wetlands, you can also explore dry peninsulas that make for great game-driving experiences with even more chances to observe different creatures. The Moremi Game Reserve is the only area of the Okavango Delta with official protection and the Botswana people declared it a game reserve in 1963. Moremi covers about 20% of the Delta region.
The best time to visit Moremi is during the dry season from May to October, when the animals congregate around the water sources and are easier to spot. However, the wet season from November to April also has its own charm, with lush greenery and the opportunity to see newborn animals.
Overall, Moremi Game Reserve is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in wildlife and nature. Its stunning landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and abundance of wildlife make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Botswana.
We offer several campsites and lodges in Moremi, ranging from basic camping facilities to luxury lodges, providing something for every type of traveler. Many of these lodges offer guided safari tours and other activities, such as cultural visits to nearby villages.
